How to edit a night photo with a preset

Night shots usually have two problems: they're dark and the colors look muddy because of mixed light from streetlamps, signs and headlights. The “City lights” presets separate warm lights from cool shadows, so the shot looks cleaner and moodier. “Neon” boosts the pinks, purples and teals of signs, while “Moody” deepens the shadows for a cinematic image.

If a photo was taken in very weak light and you can barely see anything, start with “Low Light Rescue”. It raises exposure and shadows and mutes blue and purple color noise. It won't create detail out of total darkness, but it often makes the shot usable for viewing and posting.

Frequently asked questions

Choose “Low Light Rescue” and, if needed, raise the effect strength to 130–150%. For dark daytime photos there's a separate “Brighten a dark photo” collection.
